Introduction
GyanDev is a content-first technical education site operated by Sonu Shahuji from India. This policy explains what data the site interacts with, what it deliberately avoids, and the rights you have.
Privacy questions: [email protected].
What We Collect
- Nothing by default. No accounts, no sign-up forms, no cookies used to identify you.
localStoragein your browser. Reading progress, theme preference, and bookmarks live only on your device. Clearing your site data erases them.- Cloudflare Web Analytics. Anonymous, cookie-less pageview counts. IPs are truncated on arrival; no visitor profile is built.
- Giscus comments. If you choose to comment, your GitHub profile is shown publicly under the comment — per GitHub’s policy, not ours.
What We Do NOT Collect
- No personal information (name, email address) unless you contact us directly.
- No tracking cookies.
- No third-party trackers — no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no advertising networks.
- No browser fingerprinting.
- No sale of your data. The site has nothing to sell.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
- Essential preferences (theme, active tab): stored in
localStorage, not cookies. - Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookie-less.
- Third-party: Giscus sets GitHub cookies only if you interact with the comments widget; GitHub’s cookie policy applies in that case.
- No marketing cookies.
- No consent banner needed because the site sets no cookies that require consent under GDPR, ePrivacy, or CCPA.
How Your Data Is Used
- Data in
localStoragestays on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers. - Cloudflare Analytics returns aggregate stats (pageviews, referrers, countries) used to improve the content catalog.
- Giscus comments are published publicly on the associated GitHub Discussion at the moment you post them.
Data Sharing
- We do not share your data because we do not hold any that is not already public.
- Giscus comments live on GitHub Discussions, which is public by design.
- Cloudflare is a data processor handling delivery and analytics on our behalf; their Data Processing Agreement governs that relationship.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights under GDPR (EU / EEA), UK-DPA (United Kingdom), CCPA/CPRA (California), and DPDPA 2023 (India). Because the site holds no identifiable account data, most rights are effectively self-serve:
- Access. We hold no stored personal data about you.
- Erasure. Clear your browser site data at any time to remove progress, preferences, and bookmarks.
- Objection to processing. Disable
localStoragein your browser or use a private window. - Data portability (Phase 2). A progress-export button is planned on
/settings; until it ships, localStoragekeys undergyandev:v1:*can be exported manually via devtools.
To exercise a right or ask a question, email [email protected]. We respond, where practical, within 48 hours.
Children’s Privacy
GyanDev is not directed at children under 13 (COPPA and GDPR-K thresholds). We do not knowingly collect data from minors. Parents or guardians with concerns can contact [email protected] and we will act promptly.
International Data Transfers
The site is served globally via Cloudflare’s edge network. Static content is served from the edge nearest you. No identifiable personal data is transferred cross-border by us.
Security
- HTTPS is enforced on every route.
- Because no identifiable data is stored on our servers, there is no server-side data store to breach.
- Third parties (GitHub, Cloudflare) apply their own security practices to the services they provide.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves or the law changes. Material updates will be announced via the GyanDev RSS feed and the project’s GitHub repository. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
